How do you capture the heartbeat of a church? For us, we give you The Six (soon to be seven). These six values help capture the culture we want to promote--ideals that we want to hold precious. While our doctrinal beliefs lay the ground work (click here for doctrinal beliefs), The Six help us put our beliefs in action. By the way, Rollingbrook is not a perfect church. We are simply striving to be a church pleasing to Jesus.
We will love and honor Jesus.
Jesus is the hope of the world. He gave His sinless and perfect life so that we could live.
13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying:
“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be praise and honor and glory and power,
for ever and ever!” (Revelation 5)
We will share Jesus’ love with those do not know Him.
This world is our mission field. Jesus is going to return. There is a heaven and hell.
"For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:10)
God’s Word matters.
We will hold to the truths declared in the totality of the Bible. Follow God's Word and you can't go wrong.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. (Colossians 3:16)
We will love, protect, and honor one another.
The bride of Christ matters. We will be a people of unity (and life is better together).
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. (Colossians 3)
We will not limit God.
We will not be afraid or embarrassed to ask God for anything.
We will trust His answer in everything.
Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over and came to his own town. 2 Some men brought to him a paralyzed man, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the man, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.”
3 At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, “This fellow is blaspheming!”
4 Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? 5 Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’?6 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “Get up, take your mat and go home.” 7 Then the man got up and went home. 8 When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God, who had given such authority to man. (Matthew 9)
We will walk in humility.
God loves it when we put others first, serve like Jesus, and sacrifice like Jesus.
3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross! (Philippians 2)
